At a glance
What a student from Maharashtra needs to know before deciding — clearly and honestly.
The education
Vietnamese-German University, RMIT Vietnam and national universities offer growing English-taught programmes.
The true cost
Among the cheapest in Asia for tuition and living. Best suited to cost-focused, adventurous students.
Safety & visa
Check the latest MEA advisory before you travel. There is no graduate job-search visa; a job needs a work permit or an applicable exemption. The economy is growing fast.

After you graduate
Post-study work rights are the most important factor — and the most likely to change. Here is the position as of today.
Vietnam has no dedicated general graduate job-search visa, and there is no automatic right to work after graduation. If you get a job, you must qualify under the ordinary foreign-worker rules or another applicable work-permit-exempt category, and hold the matching residence status. The student internship exemption does not carry forward automatically.
Immigration rules, eligibility and salary thresholds change frequently and without notice. Always verify the latest official guidance before you apply, and never treat any figure here as a guarantee of future entitlement.

Visa, work & money rules
The official rules behind your visa, work, family and budget planning. Rules change often, so confirm each point on the official government or university website before you apply.
Visa & permit fees
From 1 April 2026, visa fees are: single-entry US$25; multiple-entry up to 90 days US$50; over 90 to 180 days US$95; over 180 days to 1 year US$135. A Temporary Residence Card (TRC) costs US$145 for up to 2 years and US$155 for over 2 to 5 years. A DH study TRC can legally be valid for up to 5 years, subject to your authorised study period and passport validity.
Work while studying
Foreign students have no automatic right to casual part-time work in Vietnam. Under Decree 219/2025/NĐ-CP (effective 7 August 2025), a foreign student at an institution in Vietnam or abroad who holds a qualifying internship agreement or a work invitation from a Vietnamese employer may fall within a work-permit-exempt category. The employer must complete the exemption notification before you work. Vietnam sets no universal student hour limit such as 20 hours a week.
Family & dependants
While you hold DH study status, your spouse and children under 18 may qualify for the TT family visa and residence route, subject to sponsorship and documentary requirements.
Proof of funds
Vietnam does not publish a single national fixed proof-of-funds amount for students. Financial-evidence requirements are set by the admitting institution and the sponsoring process, so confirm them with your university.
Health insurance
You must hold health insurance in line with your institution’s rules. Confirm the specific policy with your university.
Scholarships
Options include Vietnamese Government scholarships (through bilateral or MOET programmes), university scholarships, and India–Vietnam schemes such as ICCR and Mekong–Ganga Cooperation, where currently offered. Check current openings with the awarding body.
