After you graduate

Post-study work rights are the most important factor — and the most likely to change. Here is the position as of today.

If you graduate from a Turkish higher-education institution, you can apply for a one-year short-term residence permit to stay and look for work. It can be renewed for a second year. This permit lets you stay, not work — to take a job, you must get a Turkish work permit through an employer.

Immigration rules, eligibility and salary thresholds change frequently and without notice. Always verify the latest official guidance before you apply, and never treat any figure here as a guarantee of future entitlement.

Visa, work & money rules

The official rules behind your visa, work, family and budget planning — last audited 17 September 2026. Rules change often, so confirm each point on the official government or university website before you apply.

Work while studying

A residence permit does not by itself give you the right to work. You need an official work permit, and your employer applies for it. Undergraduate and associate-degree students can get a part-time work permit only after completing their first year. Master’s and PhD students can work part-time or full-time from their first year.

Scholarships

Türkiye Scholarships (Türkiye Bursları) is a fully funded government scholarship covering tuition, a monthly stipend, accommodation and flights. It is awarded competitively. It is a scholarship, not a post-study work route. Indian applicants apply through the official Türkiye Bursları portal during the annual cycle.
