At a glance

What a student from Maharashtra needs to know before deciding — clearly and honestly.

The education

English-taught throughout. Trinity College and UCD anchor a small but well-regarded system.

The true cost

Moderate fees; Dublin living costs are high. Up to 2 years on Stamp 1G for master's graduates supports payback.

Safety & visa

Check the latest MEA advisory before you travel. Major employers (Google, Pfizer, Intel) base European operations here.

After you graduate

Post-study work rights are the most important factor — and the most likely to change. Here is the position as of today.

Under the Third Level Graduate Programme, eligible graduates get Stamp 1G for 12 months to look for work. Master’s-level graduates can extend it by a further 12 months, to 24 months in total.

Immigration rules, eligibility and salary thresholds change frequently and without notice. Always verify the latest official guidance before you apply, and never treat any figure here as a guarantee of future entitlement.

Up to 2 yrs
Stamp 1G, Third Level Graduate Programme
  • 12 months on Stamp 1G for eligible graduates
  • 24 months stay-back for master's
  • Critical Skills permit pathway
  • Strong tech & pharma demand

Visa, work & money rules

The official rules behind your visa, work, family and budget planning. Rules change often, so confirm each point on the official government or university website before you apply.

Visa & permit fees

The long-stay (D) study visa costs €60 for single entry or €100 for multiple entry. After you arrive, registering for your Irish Residence Permit (IRP) costs €300.

Work while studying

On Stamp 2 you can work up to 20 hours a week during term time, and up to 40 hours a week in June, July, August and September and from 15 December to 15 January.

Proof of funds

You must show evidence of funds of at least €10,000 for the year (or pro-rata for shorter courses), in addition to your tuition. This is a visa requirement, separate from actual living costs.

Health insurance

You need private medical insurance for your student immigration permission and for IRP registration.

Based on Ministry of External Affairs guidance — always check the latest official advisory before you travel.

Check the latest MEA advisory

Check the latest guidance from the Ministry of External Affairs and the Embassy of India in Dublin before you travel and during your stay, and register on MADAD (madad.gov.in). Dublin housing is tight — arrange accommodation early.

Emergency contacts

Dial 112 or 999. MEA helpline: 1800 11 3090.

Register with the embassy

Register at madad.gov.in on arrival so the nearest Indian Mission can reach you in an emergency.
