After you graduate

Post-study work rights are the most important factor — and the most likely to change. Here is the position as of today.

After graduation, if you are eligible, you can apply for a residence permit to look for work or start a business. It is valid for up to two years.

Immigration rules, eligibility and salary thresholds change frequently and without notice. Always verify the latest official guidance before you apply, and never treat any figure here as a guarantee of future entitlement.

Visa, work & money rules

The official rules behind your visa, work, family and budget planning. Rules change often, so confirm each point on the official government or university website before you apply.

Visa & permit fees

The student residence permit fee is €600 for an electronic application or €750 for a paper application.

Work while studying

You can work an average of 30 hours a week, calculated across your permit period. There is no fixed weekly cap, as long as study remains the main purpose of your stay.

Proof of funds

You must show funds of €800 per month (€9,600 for the first year). This is a visa requirement, separate from actual living costs.

Health insurance

Insurance requirements depend on how long you study. If you stay under two years, you generally need private insurance with higher cover. If you stay two years or more, you need cover for medicine costs. Confirm the threshold that applies to you with Migri.
